Holding a baby for the first time can be a trying experience for many people. Some individuals feel that they may break a baby if they were to clasp one. “The crook of your arm”, simply defined, is where the inside of your arm bends. In essence, it is the inside of the elbow. Usually, it is the arm, which is attached to the weaker hand that is where the “crook” is located. By “weaker” hand, it is meant the hand that you do not use all the time. For instance, if you are left handed, then the crook of your arm would be with your weaker hand, which is on your right side.

The infant’s head is placed on the bend of your elbow, so that the head is stabilized and protected. This also seems to give the baby a feeling of safety. Of course, your forearm, lays along the length of the infant’s side, keeping it firm. Then, if you are interested in giving the child a bottle, your dominant hand will do the feeding. This works out very well.

There are many good aspects to being able to hold a little child. Their soft skin is a pleasure to behold. We all hope that we would be able to keep the blessings of such soft skin, but alas, it does not linger. Since, we age with each passing day, we lose the precious, supple skin of the youth we had. So getting to experience that simple delight, each time we hold a baby in our arms, is a treasure, indeed.

Babies also have the most sweet smelling breath. It is funny how we shy away from the breath that comes out of the mouths of most adults but, will hang around to smell the breath of a baby. These little cherubs do not wake with foul stink coming from the opening in their faces. All adults who are reading this know exactly what is meant by these words.

The tiny hands and feet are delightful to watch, as the babies learn how to use these tools. There are times, the baby notices that he or she has hands and feet and will entertain themselves for many hours. Also, babies really love to look into the face of the person who is most special to them.

The sound of a little baby’s laugh is enough to make your heart smile. Just being able to cause the laughter to explode from the tummy of the baby, is a very good feeling. Oh the joys of life, who can resist them?
